"Journey" Woodblock Print by Space/Art
Title: Journey
Artist: Aaron Robitaille of Space/Art
Size: 27.94cm x 38.1cm • 11” x 15”
Edition: 25
Inspo: This print explores bridging the past with the present and future through both its creation process and subject matter. I used modern tools like a digital drawing tablet and laser engraver to create a woodblock printing plate, then manually printed it, paying homage to the tradition of woodblock printing and letterpress. The imagery also reflects this connection: lilacs symbolize nostalgia and a glance at the past, while chrysanthemums represent hope, optimism, longevity, and friendship—qualities we envision for Artspace’s future as a welcoming, engaging hub that positively impacts its members, artists, and the broader community.
Medium: Lasercut woodblock print on vintage ivory letterpress rag paper
About Space/Art
To commemorate fifty years as an artist run centre, three board members of Artspace - Tim Laurin, Anne Pasek, and Aaron Robitaille have created a series of original prints under the collective name Space/Art.
Please help us continue to support our local arts community, artists and members by purchasing some of these works. All proceeds will go to our 50th Anniversary Fundraising initiative where we hope to raise $50,000 in 2024.
