On Exhibition

Opening later this month...
Come Closer / Michael Nathaniel Green
September 20 - November 25, 2023

Opening Reception: Sep 23, 1pm

In 2008, at 32, Michael Nathaniel Green experienced psychosis. He has spent subsequent years navigating his way out of that difficult, consuming, and confusing period.

This exhibition is about building strength, resilience, and courage through kindness towards yourself and others. Through sculpture and installation work, Michael explores the parts of one's self one might not like to face. How can one deal more productively with the emotions schizophrenia conjures?

ReFrame Mission Miniseries Screening: Someone Lives Here

Friday Sep 8, 6pm

Artspace is hosting the presentation of Someone Lives Here, a modern-day David and Goliath story set against the backdrop of North America's housing crisis. Carpenter Khaleel Seivwright builds small, live-saving shelters for unhoused people living outside in Toronto during the winter of the pandemic. His actions attract international attention, but also staunch opposition from city officials.

This screening includes a panel discussion / Q&A featuring film subject Khaleel Seivwright. Seating will be limited; audiences can reserve a spot in advance through Eventive here.

This event is generously supported by Kat Tannock of EXP REALTY.

Culture X

Wednesday Sep 14 - Live on our website at 12pm

Cultural X is an annual showcase of Trent University’s Cultural Studies Undergraduate Art Exhibition. This exhibition showcases some of the work submitted for the Gregory R. Frith Memorial Prize award. Their body of work crosses disciplines, mediums, and theoretical approaches, questioning and problematizing digitality, the body, identity, movement, nature, language, place, family, and the ontology of art in an age of contagion, war, and isolation.

One City Spotlight

If you stop by Artspace on Wednesdays between 2:30 & 4pm, you'll find a welcoming and ever-growing group of people enjoying tea and snacks, and making art together!

Since April we have had the pleasure of hosting the One City Peterborough crew at Artspace for their weekly art drop-in program! Every week, rain or shine, the team is here with art supplies in hand. And, in no time at all, community members file in, filling the gallery with creative activity, chatter and light.

We are so grateful to One City for including us in their programming, and for offering such an incredible example of what community building and taking care of each other can look like.

Join us in thanking One City staff and volunteers - Jenny, Tammy, Brian, John, Mumta and Sarah, and the wonderful group of community members and Artspace volunteers who make this program the success that it is! Four months have flown by, and we’re looking forward to so many more.
