ininige / s/he holds
guest curated by Lori Beavis
We are thrilled to announce our upcoming exhibition, ininige / s/he holds. running from June 7 to August 10, 2024. This powerful exhibition features the works of five contemporary women artists: Shelley Niro, Alice Williams, Sandra Moore, Teresa Vander Meer-Chassé, and Dehmin Osawamick Cleland. Each artist carries forward knowledge, memory, and skills that transcend time, exploring culture, identity, and memory through their art practices.
The Anishinaabemowin word, ininige, translates to "s/he holds, handles things a certain way; s/he points in a certain direction." This exhibition delves into the ways in which these artists hold and share their knowledge across generations, looking both backward and forward to build a continuum of artistic and cultural practices.
Join us for the Opening Reception on June 7 from 6:30-8:30 pm and immerse yourself in an exhibition that celebrates the interconnectedness of past, present, and future through the lens of Indigenous women artists.
