Jan 5 - Feb 24, 2024
Kicking off our 50th anniversary year is an exhibition dedicated to our valued membership!
Throughlines: 2024 Juried Members' Exhibition proudly presents the work of 20 of our members, including a media arts installation in Gallery 2 co-presented with ReFrame Film Festival. On the commencement of this milestone year, we asked artists to submit work imbued with a look back and a look forward.
Join us for tonight's opening reception, and tell us what throughlines you see.

A love letter to our Membership
It's not February yet, but love is definitely in the air!
Of key importance to Artspace is its ability to facilitate meaningful and relevant community connections and conversations. We strive to offer programming that speaks to the needs and desires of our members. What do you care about? What are your ideas, interests, and goals? How can we serve you as a reliable resource and support, and see your artistic networks and careers flourish?
In essence, the threads that characterize the last five decades of artist-run culture at Artspace, however tangled or pristinely woven, heart-achingly water-damaged or painstakingly archived, are the relationships that built and continually reinvent Artspace. Those relationships, whether captured and retold as linear and well-documented narratives or as an ever-evolving patchwork of memories and vision, will unfold well into the future.
In contemplating this milestone year as a Staff, Board and greater community, it is natural - a default - to retell the familiar stories of our beginnings. And, we will tell those stories. They are compelling and valuable stories. But there are and will be others.
Every new or renewed membership represents an influence into what will become of Artspace. How can we ensure that the insights and wisdom of voices previously excluded are woven into the fabric of our story? This is a line of thought we're giving lots of energy these days. What will it mean for us to work in service to those voices? What shape will our work take? How can we adapt our decision making processes, priorities, facilities, etc? And, if fully adapting now isn't possible, how do we plan to get there? How can we show a truly inclusive membership love?

A new year means a new lineup of Open Studio activities!
As you may have heard, our Open Studio took a small break for the month of December! This gave staff and volunteers the opportunity to take some much needed rest, and offered us some time to evaluate the program and changes we'd like to make going forward.
We are thrilled to be back and ready to get back to Open Studip business. Here is an important change worth noting:
Registration will now be required to participate in our free, weekly Open Studio program.

Say hello to our volunteer star of the week: Margot VanDinter!
Margot (she/her) graduated with a BA English Language and Culture in the summer of 2022, after which she moved from The Netherlands to Peterborough with her partner Luka. She loves volunteering at Artspace as it provides a fun and accepting place for people of all walks of life to express themselves through various art forms, while connecting with community members. In her free time, Margot enjoys reading, crocheting and knitting, and you’ll find she always has a cup of tea or coffee near her.
We feel endlessly lucky to have you with us, Margot!
