On Exhibition

ininige / s/he holds
June 7 - August 10, 2024
Guest curated by Lori Beavis

As we approach the end of our powerful exhibition, ininige / s/he holds, we reflect on the incredible journey it has been. Guest curated by Lori Beavis, this exhibition has been on display from June 7 to August 10, 2024, and features the inspiring works of five Indigenous women artists: Shelley Niro, Alice Williams, Sandra Moore, Teresa Vander Meer-Chassé, and Dehmin Osawamick Cleland. Through their art, these artists have explored the significance of holding knowledge, community, and stories, carrying forward traditions that transcend time and delve into culture, identity, and memory.

Please join us for our Curatorial Talk and Tea on August 3, 1-3pm.

Maker Space Mural Announcement

Artspace is thrilled to announce our 2024 Maker Space Mural Artist, Josh Morley!

Josh Morley (Miskopwagan Asin) is an Anishinaabe artist, currently working in screen printing and mural work in Peterborough / Nogojiwanong. His work explores regional ecological issues, his personal relationship with nature, as well as his ancestral connection to the land. He has been part of solo and group shows within Ontario, the latest being the Indigenous group show, Our Story: Past and Present, held at the Museum of Dufferin in Mulmur, Ontario. He has also created a number of public pieces in Peterborough. Most notably, Glacial Formation was part of the 2022 Renaissance on Hunter - Road Mural Project. In 2023, he was granted the opportunity to take part in the Peterborough Change Makers Artist Residency, which enabled him to work closely with City of Peterborough staff and other stakeholders to better understand climate change and its effect on the community.

Josh will be working onsite at Artspace near the end of August to create and install his mural in our Maker Space! Stay tuned for opportunities to view and engage with his work.

Open Studio

See you in the fall!

The time has come again for our Thursday night Open Studio to take a short pause! Thanks to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, and expressed support for Open Studio this year. We had such a blast making art with you all, and can't wait to continue with this special program!

An extra special thanks goes to the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough for its contribution to the Open Studio Program, helping to make low-barrier arts programming possible in our community.

This pause during the month of August gives us a chance to rest, and then make plans for the Fall. Stay tuned for updates.

Funding for Open Studio was made possible by a grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough.
