Mikiki - Port Monteau

September 10th!

Port Monteau is a series of new video and sculpture works by Toronto based artist Mikiki. The work created for Port Manteau follows a self-led research trip, during which the artist returned home to Ktaqmkuk/Newfoundland to reconnect with family and land.

Through sculpture, installation, beading and video, Mikiki presents new considerations on identity, anarchy, loss, and holes.

Port Manteau presents a temporary docking station to consider the expression and preservation of intersecting cultural identities.

Meet Jillian the Maker Space Coordinator!

Where does the time go? Already 6 weeks in, it has been a busy and fun-filled start for Jillian (she/her) as the new Maker Space Coordinator!

Jillian is a settler person, artist, and Trent Graduate, who has called Nogojiwanong/Peterborough home for almost 5 years now. She is passionate about the role of art in deepening our connection and relationships with place, and with one another!

Jillian's role at Artspace is to lead the project of re-envisioning and expanding the current media lab into a larger and more accessible Maker Space. Presently she is working on the community consultation phase of this exciting new project.

If you see Jillian at Artspace or around town, feel free to introduce yourself! Whether it's to share an idea, ask her a question, or just chat about what arts and community mean to you, she would love to hear from you!

This exciting project is funded by a Resilient Communities grant, awarded to Artspace through the Ontario Trillium Foundation!
Call for Community Input!
Since starting in July, Jillian has spent her time consulting with community members to learn about what folks want and need in a new Maker Space. Art supplies, workshops, a zine library, and accessible lighting options, are just a few examples of what community members have shared as being important to them!

Do you have thoughts or ideas to share? You can access our community consultation survey at the link below:

SURVEY LINK

Easier to share in conversation? Follow the survey link to sign up for a meet and greet with Jillian, she will be hosting coffee hour all month long at the Silver Bean Cafe. Let us treat you to a tea/coffee and treat by the river, and we can chat about what matters to you, and what you would like to see in a new Maker Space!

*Social distancing and masking will be maintained during all in-person meetings (with the exception of removing masks to eat or drink outside, while maintaining safe distance).

First Friday Art Crawl

September 2nd

Artspace is back for First Friday Art Crawl!

Come and get your craft on! Join us for an evening of meeting, dreaming, snacking, and crafting, as we explore questions of what a more accessible Maker Space would look like in this community.

This event is for all ages! Stop by between 6 and 9 PM to grab a snack, check out the space, and make a collage at one of our craft stations!

Please note that masks are required except when actively eating or drinking.

** Accessibility notes: All work stations have room to accommodate mobility aids, and there is a wheelchair accessible gender neutral washroom on site. There will also be volunteers on site to assist with crafting and using the computer to fill out our survey. If you have any accessibility concerns or needs please reach out to Jillian at programming@artspaceptbo.ca
