People Will Either Listen, or They Won't. Let That Be Their Concern. by Mark Molnar

$50.00

People Will Either Listen, or They Won't. Let That Be Their Concern. by Mark Molnar is a reflection on his acquaintance with English guitarist Derek Bailey, and the insights gained from it.

Text produced as a part of Bennett Bedoukian's residency "The Hidden Anatomy"

"The Hidden Anatomy" brings together the disassociated. The elements of work, practice, repetition, and experimentation that are done behind closed doors are brought to the forefront. An exposition of how and why choices are made and presented.

Land Acknowledgement

Artspace, a settler-founded organization, acknowledges its presence on Michi Saagig Mississauga Anishinaabeg land, known as Nogojiwanong by some and Peterborough by others. This territory falls under Treaty 20, signed in 1818, and the Williams Treaties of 1923, involving the seven Anishinaabeg communities of Alderville, Beausoleil, Curve Lake, Georgina Island, Hiawatha, Scugog Island, and Rama. We also recognize the significance of the Alderville litigation of 2018, which underscores the ongoing discussions around land rights, sovereignty, and the failure of a colonial government to honour the original spirit and intention of the treaties. In this regard, we also want to acknowledge that thousands of African-descendant people have been enslaved, displaced and judicialized on this same territory. The presence of Black Canadian communities is directly linked to the white supremacy and capitalism that motivated American, African and Caribbean colonization by European nations.

This land acknowledgement is a living document that we will continually revisit and reflect upon. We acknowledge that we have a responsibility to honour and respect the grounds on which we are privileged to gather in the pursuit of art appreciation. We hold a deep commitment to upholding Michi Saagiig Mississauga teachings about the Earth and our relations. It is essential to us to walk in partnership and collaboration with the sovereign First Nations. We do this in the spirit of reconciliation, collaboration, and artistic creation, as we collectively move forward on this shared journey.
