Come Closer / Michael Nathaniel Green
September 20 - November 25, 2023
As part of our current exhibition, Artspace is presenting Seeds for Care, a moderated conversation about the intersection of art and mental health with specific reference to psychosis/schizophrenia.
As an artist with first-hand experience with psychosis, Michael’s recovery and well-being is inextricable from his artistic practice. He is joined in conversation by author Susan Doherty (The Ghost Garden: Inside the Lives of Schizophrenia’s Feared and Forgotten) and Executive Director at Peterborough Youth Services, Gordon Langille in a community dialogue that addresses isolation, and explores creativity and care.

NEWS - Destabilized Municipal Funding
|

|
On November 6, the City of Peterborough released a draft City budget to the public that included a 5% reduction to its funding to all Service Grant recipients, including Artspace. The New Canadian Centre promptly initiated a joint advocacy letter, to which Artspace has added its name.
A City Council Meeting dedicated to discussion about this proposed budget is scheduled for Tuesday, November 14 at 6pm. So, please tune in! Our Artistic Director, Leslie Menagh - along with representation from other orgs in receipt of Service Grants - has registered her delegation to speak against this funding reduction.
Interested in joining the chorus? CLICK HERE to sign up to speak at the meeting!!!

Meet Brian Nichols!
Anyone who drops by Artspace on a Wednesday afternoon is very likely to have met Brian Nichols!
Brian has had a career teaching at the post secondary level (psychology, early childhood education and expressive arts), and working as a play and art psychotherapist. In his retirement, his interest now is in managing illness and in palliative care. He currently facilitates retreats for people living with cancer, and facilitates art drop-in opportunities (here at Artspace) for people we have been marginalized. He has a doctorate in psychology and maintains a personal art practice.
The way we see it, Artspace would not be where we are today without the support, generosity, and care that Brian brings to everything that he does.
Join us in saying thank you to Brian for his dedication to making our community a more caring place.
And, by the way, Brian is one of the facilitators for our upcoming workshop, Spirit Creatures from Stone, Bone, Metal, and Glass. Click HERE to find out how to register.

And, speaking of volunteers…
You’re invited to Artspace’s Volunteer Holiday Party, November 23 from 6-9pm.

Join us for snacks, hot drinks, and craft stations galore! Past, present, and prospective volunteers are welcome to attend.
