DisArts 101 - Lecture and Discussion

In celebration of Disability Pride Month, Artspace is hosting author, academic, artist, and activist Derek Newman-Stille for a special lecture and discussion on Disability Art!

Join us at Artspace, as Derek (they/them) takes us on a deep dive into the word of Disability art (DisArts) and Deaf Art (De'VIA), looking at the history of the practice, what DisArts seeks to achieve, and the potential impact that these art forms can have on our community.

The event will also include a discussion between Derek and artist, PhD Student, and Artspace Board Member Luka Stojanovic (he/they) about the process and practice of working and writing on DisArts, followed by a Q&A discussion with the audience.

Throughout the lecture and roundtable discussion, audience members will be invited (but not required) to engage in artistic making, exploring themes of disability in their own art

Friday, July 12th from 6:30pm-8:00pm.

Doors open at 6pm. No registration required!
