Your Voice Counts!

It has been a while since our last newsletter. We have had an eventful few weeks with more on the way.

One of the important projects we have underway is STRATEGIC PLANNING

If you aren't familiar with that term, it's basically a process of setting goals for the next five years - creating a 5-year road map, if you will. And we want your input.

Please take this opportunity to make your voice count by participating in our strategic planning survey.
  • It takes approximately ten (10) minutes

  • The survey is available online until Nov. 8th, 2024, at 5:00 pm EST.

  • There is an open text box in the final question, for any additional feedback

Rest assured, your privacy will be protected. This survey is anonymous and is being conducted by a third party that will provide results as grouped data. Individuals cannot be identified.

On Exhibition

From The Ground Up: Artists in Practice
for 50 Years

September 11 - November 16, 2024

Join us in celebrating the moving work of Dorothy Caldwell, Wayne Cardinalli, Frances Dorsey, Faye Jacobs, Jeanne McRight, and Brian Nichols.

Co-curators Jillian Ackert and Peg Town ask, what does it take to sustain 50 years of artist practice? These sculptural, painting, and textile works are imbued with the undeniable wisdom and skill that comes with time and commitment.

Don't miss your opportunity to see this final exhibition in celebration of our 50th anniversary!

Coming Up This Month

Texty Tuesdays
Tuesday, October 22, 6-8 pm

Join Janette Platana, artist, writer, and educator, and Luka Stojanovic, Ph.D. student and Lead Convener of the Aging and Disability Studies Reading Group at Trent University for a guided tour of the works on exhibition, a generative discussion, and a hands-on artmaking workshop. With instruction and inspiration, you will produce an original work of miniature literature (a zine) made by you, the co-creating viewer, an aesthetic response to the works in this important exhibition by artists in their 6th or 7th decades of artmaking. Free to participate. Registration required!

Workshop: CONNECTION
Saturday, October 26, 10-3pm

Join artists, Jane LowBeer and Brian Nichols for a playful art-making workshop, as they take you through group and individual art-making activities, intended to deepen and grow connection in your personal art practice.

This one-of-a-kind workshop will involve artistic exploration and play— a day of deepening our connections to self, others and unusual materials.

Throughout the day our artistic boundaries will bump and merge and separate again from the others. Be prepared to work collaboratively and on bigger and smaller scales than you might normally choose.

space/art Print Launch

On Friday, Nov 1, 6pm-10pm Artspace is launching the sale of limited-edition prints created by local artists and Artspace Board members, Tim Laurin, Anne Pasek, and Aaron Robitaille. These artists - under the collective moniker space/art - are generously donating all proceeds to Artspace as part of our anniversary fundraising efforts.

Members of the public are warmly invited to drop in during the First Friday PTBO art crawl to peruse these wares and--in the spirit of Artspace--make some of their own art in a free printmaking activity. Using the printing presses and tools available in Artspace’s Maker Space, all will be invited to create a print that can be hung as a seasonal ornament or hung as-is.

The prints available have been produced through wood print, linocut, and risograph printing processes. They are affordably priced; prints will sell for $50, $30, and $10.

“The space/art collective is an effort to raise funds for Artspace’s ongoing operations and to reflect on the 50-year history of the artist-run centre,” says Anne Pasek. “Peterborough is fortunate to have an organization that exists to help artists make and exhibit new work. We hope that this printmaking initiative is a way for everyone to enjoy an affordable addition to their art collection and come out to support this important pillar of the local arts community. Everyone deserves good art, and everyone deserves to make art.”
