Maker Space Dispatches

Donations are being sorted!
Workshops and events are being planned!
Furniture is being built!
What a time to be alive!
Can you tell we're excited?

This October's planning, stocking, and building of the new Maker Space is well underway. And with that, here are a few updates.

First things first - we put out the call, and wow, did you deliver!! Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our October Supplies Drive by dropping off their previously loved art supplies, magazine collections, tools, and more. We are so humbled by the generosity of this community, and the enthusiasm folks have shown for this exciting new project!

Between all of the sorting, logging, and organizing donations, I will also be taking these last few days of October to visit some of the other Maker Spaces and community art studios in the region! As we develop our offerings here at Artspace, we feel strongly about working in relationship with folks and organizations around us so that we can better support artists, and community members alike! Connecting with and learning from other community art spaces is only the beginning.

Please follow along on our progress by checking out our new Maker Space BLOG! There you will find all manner of updates, workshop offerings, and event announcements- so you don’t miss a beat.

Holiday Market and Fundraiser

Mark your calendars!
Image taken of the Artspace building. Building is red brick with big windows. Photograph is overlayed with graphics of yellow, green, blue, and red christmas lights and falling snow.
On December 2nd and 3rd, 2022, Artspace will be hosting it's first annual Holiday Market and Fundraiser, in support of our new Maker Space!

This two-day market will bring together artists, art-enthusiasts, and community members to celebrate local arts and welcome in the holiday season! This event will also raise funds for the Maker Space, which will be used to provide low barrier arts programming now and into the future.

Three day left to apply!! Vendor Applications are open until October 30th, at 12PM!

What else is happening at Artspace?

So what else?

As new Staff and Board Members have been settling into their positions, we’ve been firming up plans for next year’s exhibitions, conceiving new free public engagement activities for visitors to the centre, and making some exciting revisions to our artist residency program - all to be announced in the coming months.

Needless to say, the creation of the maker space is ushering in all sorts of jazzy updates to things like membership perks and facilities. So, we’ll mark those developments with a new membership drive and fundraising campaign too.

And, our hours of operation are due to expand this November, giving visitors more time to visit us again. In essence, the fall vibe for Artspace is one of refresh and welcome (and hot chocolate…there will be hot chocolate).

Please note, up until November 26 is Mikiki’s exhibition, Port Manteau, curated by Lucas Cabral, so please do drop in to have a look.

Warmly,
Leslie
